Once considered as confined to the ranks of the Women's Institute, a surge in sales of jam making equipment suggests a growing trend for do-it-yourself preserves. The Telegraph reports (26 April). To read the article in full, click here
We all know home made jam is fairly straight forward to make, we simply choose our favourite berry or fruit and pick as much of it as we can get our hands on! Perfect for those long summer days when our garden and local fields are bursting with fresh fruit. If you're stuck for inspiration, there are lots of simple jam recipes available online. But have you ever thought of making jam with dried fruit? It’s the perfect jam solution, suitable to make all year-round because the fruit ingredients are dried. All you need to make a few jars for friends and family is about 500g of dried apricots or dates, double the quantity of jam sugar, lots of water and once the fruit is soaked, prepare in the usual way.
We sell a range of dried apricots and dates, for a full list, why not request a pricelist or visit our dried fruit pages

22.04.10: "Going organic is less costly than you may think."

The UK's Birmingham Mail reports, "In the eyes of the consumer, organic food products have always had one major drawback: their price. But for better or worse, the recession is changing all that...According to new data from the Organic Trade Board, a group of key British organic companies and organisations, staple organic foods like bread, milk and coffee are now cheaper. Research by retail analyst company IDG shows that just one in five of all UK shoppers have remained loyal to their organic food purchasing habits, with a further one in ten saying they only buy more organic food when they had more money to spend."
