Community Foods were recently invited to the 2010 Free From Food Awards, to represent Orgran, the gluten-free specialists. Anna Harris went along to the awards and reports back:
"The venue was a striking building in Kings Cross called the Canal Museum, full of lovely old artefacts from London’s watery history. Gloriously presented by Foods Matter editor Michelle Berriedale-Johnson and with a closing speech from chef Antony Worrall-Thompson, we had a lovely evening listening to the results and meeting other allergy-aware manufacturers."
Here’s what we won:
Highly commended
Orgran Multigrain fusilli with amaranth
‘Very good texture and really tasty – good mouth-feel – the real deal.’
Commended
Orgran Dinosaur whole fruit cookies
‘Perfect size and shape for kids – chewy, fruity and not too sweet.’
"From my own experience, these two products are truly delicious and totally indistinguishable from ordinary wheat varieties!"

10.05.10: Community opens its doors for a day of special deals
Saturday 25th April 2010
On 25th April Community held its first open day in 20 years to show off new products, offer some amazing one off deals and to talk to customers about their business. We took the opportunity to discuss trading issues, what we can do to help and the changes and improvements to the Community set up.
The business has worked hard to improve stock availability, increase activity in the warehouse and freshen up its approach to customers. We are hopeful that all those who attended enjoyed the day. We certainly did and were rewarded by a 19% increase in sales in April, a hopeful sign that the business is working with the best interests of customers to heart.
Thank you for your continued support. The winner of the Open Day Questionnaire prize has been contacted. Watch this space for news of our next Open Day. If you would like to be notified directly to ensure you don’t miss out on Open Day deals, contact us with your details with the subject “Open Day”. We look forward to seeing you at our next event.
