20.10.09: Community Foods rejects GM claims

Community Foods rejects GM claims

The Royal Society Report due out on Wednesday 21st October 2009 is widely anticipated to suggest GM foods have so contaminated our food chain that resisting the technology is largely useless.

We at Community and Crazy Jack Organic strongly reject any such claims, for the following reasons:

  1. We are part of a £2.1 Billion industry that is set up to produce foods that are free from GM and have done this very successfully for very many years. We continue to uphold these standards and have no intention of acknowledging such a ridiculous and unfounded claim.
  2. Despite the propaganda of the GM industries our industry is perfectly capable of tracking product from seed to finished product and these standards enable us to differentiate our products. It is the organic industry’s attention to detail that allows us to make our claims and to resolve transgressions and problems quickly.
  3. The presumption that GM foods are the answer to food problems is completely unfounded and a mischievous manipulation of peoples fears - our industry in contrast, welcomes the independent findings of a 4 year review of the food chain, sponsored by the United Nation’s and involving more than 400 international scientists which concludes global hunger is a result more of the power and control of the food system rather than growing enough food, contrary to the claims of the GM lobby.

Our view is that the integrated, GM free approach of organic farming delivers many of the solutions facing global food production in a sustainable, robust fashion that is equitable to all - farmers, producers, manufacturers and consumers.

01.10.09: Organic UK

Organic UKWe're part of an innovative campaign to promote Organic, pledge your support today.

Organic UK are an industry-wide communications campaign to promote the organic brand and increase sales of organic food and drink. The UK organic industry plans to run a three year generic marketing campaign with the ambition to achieve 15% volume growth per year. To do this Organic UK need to raise as much funding as possible in the form of pledges from farmers and growers, wholesalers, processors and retailers.

Organic UK will be applying to the EU organic promotion fund for match funding, so for every £1 we contribute they can invest £2 in reaching a new wider audience of shoppers, using print and above the line advertising (this includes TV and press), online promotion and PR to motivate them to spend more on organic food and drink.

Many organic companies (Community’s one of them), large and small, have already pledged financial support. Organic UK urge you to do the same and be a part of an exciting initiative that will reinvigorate the organic market and increase your sales.

Pledge now to make our future an organic future.

Take a look at www.organicuk.org for more details.
